Joey Zimet, m.s., cscs, cpt associate exercise physiotherapist meridian physiotherapy®
JOEY's JOURNEY INTO THE FIELD OF HEALTH WAS INSPIRED BY HIS OWN INJURY FOR WHICH HE TRIED ‘EVERYTHING’ WITH NO long-term IMPROVEMENTS. THIS JOURNEY LEAD HIM TO MEETING DR. ANDREW BUSER AND MARKUS GREUS, PT WHOSE INSIGHTS INTO POSTURE AND FUNCTION Were BOTH THE FIRST THING TO HELP HIS INJURY AND SIMPLY MADE SENSE ON A DEEP LEVEL, AS IT ADDRESSED THE ROOT CAUSE OF PAIN, NOT ONLY THE SYMPTOMS.
JOEY IS PRIVILEGED TO MAKE AN IMPACTFUL AND LASTING DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF INDIVIDUALS IN PAIN. WHAT RESONATES WITH JOEY IS THE PRINCIPLE THAT TO TRULY HELP SOMEONE IN PAIN, WE NEED TO UNDERSTAND WHY THE PAIN IS THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE. THIS IS TYPICALLY REFLECTED IN ONE’S POSTURE; SPECIFICALLY, UNIQUE AND INDIVIDUALIZED VARIABLES WITH POSTURE (‘THE POSTURELATE,’ dr. andrew buser). ONLY THEN CAN WE TRULY ADDRESS THE ROOT CAUSE OF WHAT’S GOING ON AND PROVIDE AN INDIVIDUAL WITH THE INNATE TOOLS TO HELP HIM OR HERSELF LONG TERM.
TO QUOTE DR. BUSER, “APPLY, APPLY, APPLY”. JOEY’S PASSION FOR LEARNING AND APPLYING THE INFORMATION TO HELP PEOPLE BEGAN WITH A BS IN EXERCISE SCIENCE FROM RUTGERS UNIVERSITY, WHERE HE COMPLETED AN HONORS THESIS TITLED “OVERTRAINING AND HARDINESS”, TO A MS IN EDUCATION, AND VARIOUS DEGREES IN THE FIELD OF HEALTH (CSCS, CPT). THIS DRIVE TO UNDERSTAND THE BODY - AND MIND - ON A VERY DEEP AND HOLISTIC LEVEL, AS A TOOL TO FURTHER HELP PEOPLE, HAS NOW LEAD JOEY TO COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY, TEACHERS COLLEGE, WHERE HE’S enrolled IN AN ADVANCED MASTER’S PROGRAM IN APPLIED PHYSIOLOGY.
FROM CHILDREN TO THOSE IN THEIR NINETIES, ATHLETES TO THE SEDENTARY, INDIVIDUALS IN THE SPOTLIGHT TO THE GENERAL POPULATION, JOEY FEELS THE DISTINCT FORTUNE TO HAVE HELPED MANY PEOPLE WHOSE SUBSEQUENT FOCUS IS LESS ABOUT PAIN AND MORE ABOUT ENJOYMENT AND HAPPINESS.
JOEY’S PROMISE TO EACH INDIVIDUAL WHO ENTRUSTS HIM IN HELPING THEM IS TO DO EVERYTHING HE CAN TO GET THEM TO FEEL AND FUNCTION MORE OPTIMALLY. ABOVE GETTING ONE OUT OF PAIN, JOEY’S ULTIMATE GOAL IS TO MAKE SOMEONE INDEPENDENT IN THEIR PERSONAL JOURNEY TO HEALTH. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED BY TEACHING HIS CLIENTS WHY PAIN OCCURS, HOW TO RECOGNIZE THE postural root CAUSE, AND WHAT CAN BE DONE ON THEIR OWN TO ADDRESS IT. AS THE MERIDIAN PHYSIOTHERAPY MOTTO GOES, ‘HEAL THYSELF’.
